

This Grade II Listed 1930’s Art Deco building was once an air traffic control building on the former West Malling Airfield during World War 2,.
It underwent a careful, extensive refurbishment and extension and is now used as a cultural centre, offices and coffee house at the heart of a busy community.
MKA designed the conversion of an existing Paper shop into a new Cafe for Dame Kelly Holmes. Ms Holmes wanted to provide a vibrant and accessible meeting place for local people in Hildenborough where she grew up.
The site is in a Conservation Area and planning negotiations were protracted and we ultimately achieved permission to convert and extend existing Victorian buildings into a new café, providing a modern community focus and meeting place.
MKA designed the exterior of the building and laid out all the interior spaces. Following planning permission MKA provided a detailed working drawing package for others to run-on-site. the interior design was by John Barnett Designs.
The success of this community destination has gone from strength to strength over the years following its completion.
Two headquarter buildings amounting to 25,000 sq ft of office space represent the first phase of Eclipse Business Park. The buildings occupy a prominent position off junction 7 of the M20 and is seen as the gateway to Maidstone.
Due to the topography of the site both buildings have semi-basement car parking with three floors of open plan office above.
The building has been designed using a 6m concrete frame primary grid with aluminium curtain wall cladding.
The penthouse offices on each building look out onto a sedum roof.
Both buildings were pre-let prior to completion.
These buildings were the concept of the client, to produce a modular building, single storey, to accommodate B1 use from office to industrial.
Five of these buildings have been constructed ranging in floor area from 35,000 to 55,000 sq ft.
The building can be let as a whole or in bays down to 2000 sq ft per unit. The infrastructure for the services has been designed to allow this variation in unit size. The buildings can be naturally ventilated or have air-conditioning to suit the environment required by the client.
